Becoming a member

Membership of Portsmouth City Council Library Service is free and anyone is welcome to join. You can join at any of the nine library branches in the city or on our Mobile Library. If you are under 16 years of age, a responsible adult will need to sign your membership form. 

Please note that if you are already a member and need to get a replacement library card, or notify the library of a change of address, you will need to bring proof of name and address to the library with you. A paper letter with name and address OR an email letter presented on a mobile phone will be sufficient.

Register online

You may join the library online by clicking on the button below. Create a password when promoted and make a note of the membership number you are issued with. You can then start using our digital services such as Borrowbox eBooks straight away. You will later need to visit your nearest library in order to obtain your library card for borrowing books and other physical formats.
